William2, William1) was born 22 February 1783,49 Halifax County, North Carolina,50 died after 1824, Morgan County, Georgia.51 He married circa 1801, Halifax County, to Elizabeth Edmondson, daughter of Bryant Edmondson,52 will made 15 December 1794, proved at February Court 1795, Halifax County.53

| | David Downs began paying taxes in Morgan County, Georgia, in 1808 in Capt. Lane’s District. In 1809, he paid taxes in Capt. Barton’s District on 40 acres in Lot 184 on Sandy Creek, adjoining Elliott. In 1810, he paid taxes in Capt. Hughey’s District on the same 40 acres, adjoining Few. He paid taxes in Barton’s District in 1812 on the same 40 acres. David paid taxes in 1817, in Morgan County, Capt. Wright’s District, on 90 acres, adjoinging Few. Also, in 1817, David Downs was agent for Sarah Edmonson for 30 acres on Apalachee River. He paid taxes in Wright’s District in 1818 and 1820 on 90 acres. In 1823, David paid taxes on 202 1/4 acres on Apalachee River in 5th District, Morgan County, and on 250 acres in Early County, 15th District, Lot 179. David paid taxes in 1824 in Morgan County, Sparks’s District on 292 1/2 acres on Sandy Creek in Morgan County, 250 acres in 15th District of Early County, Lot 179, and 202 1/2 acres in the 5th District of Houston County, Lot 2. David was also agent for William Downs in 1824.54

| | Lot 2 in the 5th District of Houston County had been drawn in the 1821 Land Lottery by William Downs. It was mentioned in William Downs’s 1824 will in Morgan County. This land was sold sometime between 1824 and 1828, but no deed can be found for the sale.55
