William Polk4Hardeman (Thomas Jones3, Thomas2, John1), “Gotch,”was born 4 November 1816, Williamson County, Tennessee,1273 died 8 April 1898, Austin, Travis County, Texas.1274 He married first, in 1840, to Mrs. Rebecca Amanda FitzAllens Wilson Hardeman, widow of his Uncle Bailey Hardeman. Rebecca was born 24 September 1806, died 15 October 1853, Caldwell County, Texas. Rebecca A. F. Wilson married 20 June 1820, Williamson County, Tennessee, to Bailey Hardeman (1795-1836). They had five children. [See #23, Bailey Hardeman].
    He married second, 29 December 1857, Caldwell County, Texas, to Sarah Ann Hamilton,1275 born circa 1832, Georgia, died 8 November 1869, Guadalupe County, Texas. He married third, 5 February 1874, Travis County, Texas, to Mary E. Collins, born 24 September 1841, died 13 March 1911,1276 Austin, Travis County, Texas.1277
    William Polk Hardeman and his third wife are buried in the State Cemetery in Austin, Travis County, Texas. Tombstone text: Gen. William P. Hardeman, born in Williamson County, Tenn., November 4, 1816, died April 8, 1898. He came to Texas in 1835 and served in every military struggle. A veteran of four wars. Mary E., wife of Wm. P. Hardeman, born Sept. 24, 1841, died Mar. 13, 1911. Blessed are the brave who died in the Lord. Erected by his wife.1278
