    John Hardeman moved from Rockingham County, North Carolina, to Wilkes County, Georgia, before 6 March 1786. On that date he witnessed two deeds for his sister and brother-in-law, Glen and Dorothy Owen.276
    On 2 November 1789 in Wilkes County, Georgia, George Lumpkin and Ann, his wife, sold to John Hardeman, all of Wilkes County, for £100, 400 acres on Buflow Fork of Long Creek, adjoining John Lumpkin, down creek on both sides, west by Stidom, east by vacant land and Pots, to west side of creek. Witnesses: Vines Collier, Jno. Lumpkin, James Rutledge, Robert Lumpkin, Pitman Lumpkin, William Strong, Thomas Rutledge.277
    John Hardeman paid taxes in Wilkes County, Georgia, in 1791, in Captain William Duke’s Company, on 400 acres and five slaves. He paid taxes in Captain William Duke’s Company, in 1792, on six slaves and 300 acres on Buffalo Creek, adjoining John Lumpkin, Seth Stubblefield, and William Strong. He paid taxes in Captain William Duke’s Company, in 1793, on six slaves and 300 acres on Long Creek, adjoining John Lumpkin, Seth Stubblefield, and William Strong. In 1793, John Hardeman’s land was put into Oglethorpe County.278
    John Hardeman’s sisters and their husbands sold John their portions of the estate of John Hardeman, deceased, of Guilford County, North Carolina, their father. These deeds were recorded in Wilkes and Oglethorpe County, Georgia: 26 January 1792, Sneed and Judith Strong of Rockingham County, North Carolina; 26 November 1791, Glen and Dorothy Owen of Wilkes County, Georgia; 26 November 1791, Richard and Jane Raffity of Wilkes County, Georgia; 4 December 1791, William and Susanna Strong of Wilkes County, Georgia; and 8 May 1794, William and Elizabeth Stone of Washington County, Territory South of Ohio. On 12 May 1798, the heirs of Ester Everett of Davidson County, Tennessee, sold John Hardeman their portion of the estate.279
