    Daniel Meadows applied for a pension in Coweta County, 15 April 1871. He appeared before W. B. Smith, clerk of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. Daniel was 92 years old and a resident of Coweta County. He was married and his wife’s name was Anna Thompson to whom he married in Wilkes County, Georgia, 1 January 1801. She was still living. He volunteered in Greene County, Georgia, and was mustered into service in Sparta, Hancock County, Georgia, and marched to Savannah and guarded the city until about 1 March 1815 and then marched back to Sparta and was discharged. He was paid in Greensborough, Georgia, in two payments of $20 each. He made this application to receive a pension under the act approved 14 February 1871. Daniel appointed M. L. Smith of Coweta County, his attorney to receive his pension certificate. Daniel’s post office was Grantville, Coweta County, Georgia, where he lives.144
    The town of Grantville was originally called Calico Corners. It was first settled about 1840. The town was renamed Grantville in 1852 for L. P. Grant, president of the A & WP Railroad, which ended at Grantville, Georgia.
    Daniel Meadows was about six feet tall with dark hair and eyes, hair once black, but white as snow when he died. Anna Thompson Meadows was fair complected with blue eyes and red hair. She was energetic, persevering, had plenty of temper, with a broad jaw that indicated determination or will power. Daniel and Anna Meadows were both members of the Missionary Baptist Church. Daniel died without sickness or pain. He retired at night, went to sleep and never awoke, though he continued to breathe, slower and weaker, for two days and nights.145
    Daniel and Ann Meadows and their sons, John C. Meadows and James M. Meadows, along with daughters–in–law, Julia Ann and Clarissa H. Meadows, were members of New Hope Baptist Church in Coweta County.146
