| | An account book kept by John Meadows was in the possession of Mrs. Mildred Webb Groover of East Point, Georgia, in 1975. The first date in the book was 1 February 1837 and it proves that he had diverse business interests which were kept carefully recorded. John apparently owned a store since there are accounts of goods charged to the account of persons known to be in the area where he lived as well as relatives.

| | John kept a well equipped blacksmith’s shop as evidenced by the accounts of work done for various people. He loaned money to many people as shown by his careful accounts of interest accrued. One of the debtors was his brother, Vincent Meadows, who borrowed $32.16. There is a note in the account book that John C. Meadows paid Daniel Meadows $26.37 ½ for corn.
