|page 311 11 March 1822. As there has been a serious difference between myself & Wm. H. Brown in a case of an assault & battery which on my part produced a number of violent & hard assertions against Brown. This is to say that I do renounce them all & that I do debar myself from procuring either directly or indirectly any writ either in law or equity against Brown from the beginning of the world until the present date. Also as I am cut out of the employ of Brown & am in the occupation of his houses inside of Brown’s plantation & Brown about to plant his crops around B house, I obligate myself to remove out of house by the time Mr. Applewhite receives the cotton. /s/ William (x) Duke.
