| pages 99-102 Mortgage: Morgan Co., Ga.: 7 June 1823, James Mitchell, merchant, & one of the firm of Mitchell & Burge of afsd. co., to Alexander McKinzie & Dimas Ponce, merchants doing business under firm of McKinzie & Ponce of the city of Augusta. McKinzie & Ponce at request of Mitchell & Burge became acceptors to drafts or inland bills of exchange drawn by Mitchell & Burge in favor of Lawrence Rapely & Co. One drawn in May 1823 & accepted 7 May due in 8 months for $2214.38, another at same time at 12 months for same amt. & also for acceptance at 90 days at same time in favor of Woolsey for $97.15.

For security for notes given by Mitchell & Burge to McKinzie & Ponce, 28 March 1822 for $4074.85, 3 April 1822 due in 60 days for $389.58, 6 May 1823 for $315.73, & $513.14 open account. Total is $9419.21 plus interest. Security is a house & lot in town of Madison, Lot 19, the lot where the dwelling house now occupied by said James is. Also, Lot 21 with a Ginhouse, adj. Chatfield & others. Also, part of Lot 4 where the Store now occupied by Mitchell & Burge is. Also, 150 acres in said co., part of Lot 174. Also, 100 acres, part of Lot [blank] in said co., adj. above lot, Barefield, S. Walker, & others. Also, lot in the town of Covington, Newton Co. bought by Mitchell & Burge at sale of lots of the town. Also, a negro man named Moses about 20 years old, Moses about 40 years old, & Henry about 28 years, yellow complected. If James Mitchell pays to Lawrence Rapely & Co. & A. M. Woolsey the drafts & satisfies McKinzie & Ponce for the notes & open accounts with all advances hereafter with interest this to be void. /s/ James Mitchell. Wit: Elijah Page, J. W.
