Thomas is indebted to the branch bank of the state of Georgia in Greensboro for several large sums of money on notes. All have been endorsed by William for benefit of Thomas. Note, 31 Oct. 1822 due in 61 days to branch bank to William or order & endorsed by William & George P. Nickleson, J. H. & J. C. Nickleson & John Houghton for $5827. Note, 7 Nov. 1822 for $2917 due to branch bank in 61 days to William or order & endorsed by him. Note, $360 of 14 Nov. 1822 due to branch bank in 61 days to William or order & endorsed by him. Note, $1222 of 21 Nov. 1822 due to branch bank in 61 days to William or order & endorsed by him.
Note, $1926 of 5 Dec. 1822 due to branch bank in 61 days to William or order & endorsed by him. Note, $250 of 5 Dec. 1822 due to branch bank in 61 days to William or order & endorsed by him & J. H. & J. C. Nickelson & George P. Nickleson. Note, $226 of 12 Dec. 1822 due to branch bank in 61 days to William or order & endorsed by him & J. H. & J. C. Nickleson. All notes total $12,728 which William is endorsor for the benefit of Thomas & for which he is in part secured by a mortgage on personal property of today. For more security for William, Thomas puts up: tract in said co. on Richland Creek waters, 341 acres, granted to Powell, adj. Randle, Wills, & others. Tract near Greensboro, 290 acres, adj. Henry Sandford, Woods, & others (bought at sale of University lands & subject to mortgages made at time of purchase & now held by the state). Tract in Greene & Morgan Cos. on both sides of Appalachee, 238 acres, adj. Benjamin Jordan, & others, known as the Mill tract. Also, 16 unimproved lots in the town of Greensboro in N.W. cor., Lots 182-195, & Lots 213-214. Also, 2 improved lots & an alley in said town, adj. Main St. & the public square, Lots 63 & 16 & on which Thomas W. Grimes’s Tavern & improvements stand, in fee simple. If Thomas W. Grimes pays the money in the 7 promissory notes endorsed by William G. Grimes to the branch bank in Greensboro this to be void. If not paid William can foreclose. /s/ Thomas W. Grimes. Wit: A. H.
