pages 474-475     Morgan Co., Ga.: Act to authorize a lottery for benefit of Madison Academy in Morgan Co. passed both branches of General Assembly of Ga., 24 Dec. 1825. John Wingfield, James C. Cook, William Johnson, Isaac Walker, & Nathaniel Allen, commissioners to do lottery. Sell to George Elgin of Tennessee, all title & interest, in fee simple. Condition: George Elgin shall not at any time use the names of the commissioners in the publication progress or completion of any scheme of lottery he may draw under the act. All lottery operations Elgin shall institute under charter shall be his own responsibility & commissioners aren’t to be liable for any act done by him. Elgin before 25 Dec. next shall carry into effect a lottery & draw at least two classes of lottery. Elgin’s promissory note due 25 Dec. next for $750. 1 Jan. 1834 he owes $2250. Elgin shall complete the lottery within 3 years from 1 Jan. next. If Elgin fails to comply, all to revert to the commissioners, 6 Feb. 1834. /s/ Nathaniel Allen, Wm.
