Martha A.6Gillespie (Sarah5Sims, William4, Bruster3, Edward2, William1), was born circa 1817, Greene County, Tennessee, died 23 November 1879, Washington County, Tennessee, married 31 May 1842, Greene County, to William Tyler, born 5 August 1813, Washington County, Tennessee, died after 1887, Washington County. He married second, 12 December 1880, Washington County, to Cordelia A. Crumley. He married third, 17 September 1886, Washington County, to Marthy Broyles.
William Tyler was reared on the farm and educated at Washington College. He married in 1842 to Martha, a daughter of Allen Gillespie. William Tyler married second, in 1880, to Cordelia Crumbly, nee Rose, died 1885. They had two sons, William and Nathaniel T. Tyler. William Tyler married third, in 1886, to Martha Broyles, nee Bitner. In 1887, William Tyler lived on his father’s old homestead on Nolachucky. The farm had once belonged to John Sevier.
William Tyler was the son of William Tyler, born circa 1748, in the Shenendoah Valley of Virginia, died 1820, Washington County, Tennessee, and Nancy Phillips, born in North Carolina, died in her 90th year, daughter of Robert Phillips. In 1803 they settled on the farm once owned by Gov. Sevier. Nancy Phillips was married twice and William Tyler was the only son by her first marriage to William Tyler. They were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
