Maria Elizabeth “Bettie”8Sims (Mary Ann7, John Dabney6, John5, William4, Bruster3, Edward2, William1), was born 31 March 1854, Ellis County, Texas, died 31 October 1939, Ellis County, Texas, buried Bethel Cemetery, Ellis County. She married 5 November 1873, Ellis County, to James T. Johnston, born 17 May 1849, Kentucky, died 20 February 1904, buried Bethel Cemetery, Ellis County.
Waxahachie Daily Light, 20 February 1904: J. T. Johnston, prominent citizen of Ellis County, died at 8 o’clock this morning at his home two miles from Forreston. Mr. Johnston was about fifty-three years old and had been sick several weeks. He came to Ellis County in 1871 and had served the county a number of terms as county commissioner. He enjoyed a large circle of friends and was highly esteemed by all who knew him. His remains will be interred tomorrow afternoon at 3 o’clcok at the Bethel Cemetery.
Tribute to J. T. Johnston, 24 February 1904. He had a brother, John C. Johnston, of Hereford, Deaf Smith County, Texas; a widow, and four children. He was a Baptist.
James T. and Maria Johnston lived in Ellis County, Texas, in 1880 and 1900. Bettie Johnston and her daughter, Mary Johnston, lived together in Ellis County, in 1910.
