| | Samuel Thompson’s obituary was published in the Christian Index, 12 October 1837: Samuel Thompson departed this life September 9th , at his residence in Taliaferro county of billious conjestive fever, Brother Samuel Thompson, in the __ year of his age. For many years he was a member of the Baptist Church in Crawfordville, and all can bear testimony that as a Christian, his walk and conversation bore evidence that he was indeed a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ. In his domestic relations as husband, father, master, etc. he was kind, affectionate, and tender, to a degree equalled by few, and surpassed by none. He was ready to meet his Judge and Maker, clothed in the imputed righteousness of the Saviour of sinners. Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my latter end be like his.110
