    In 1785, Henry Tomas [sic] paid taxes in Wilkes County, Georgia, in Captain Thornton’s District EE on 200 acres of second class land and 150 acres of third class land in Wilkes County, and one slave. He also paid taxes on 287 ½ acres of second class land in Washington County.8 The area of District EE in 1785 included lands in Defacto Wilkes County. District DD was taken out of District EE in 1786, but added back to District EE in 1793.
    First and second class land was oak and hickory land. Third class land was pine land. Taxes were paid in the county where the person resided which may not have been where all land was located.
    In 1786, Henry Thompson, Sr. paid taxes in Wilkes County, Georgia, in Captain Read’s District DD on 200 acres of second class land and 200 acres of third class land in Wilkes County, and one slave. He also paid taxes on 287 ½ acres of second class land in Greene County.9 The area of District DD was created from District EE after the 1785 returns were made. Only about fifty persons were ever subject to paying taxes in this district. Residents returned lands on the waters of Stephens Creek, Sherill’s Creek, the Ogeechee River, and Little River.
    In 1787, Henry Thomson paid taxes in Wilkes County, Georgia, in Captain Read’s District DD on 265 acres of second class land and 300 acres of third class land, and one slave in Wilkes County. He also paid taxes on 287 ½ acres of second class land in Greene County.10 There are no extant tax lists for Wilkes County, in 1788 or 1789.
    On 18 September 1788 in Wilkes County, Georgia, Absalom Bedell sold to Henry Thompson, both of Wilkes County, for £20, 150 acres on Stephens Creek in Wilkes County.11
    In 1790, Henrey Thomason paid taxes in Wilkes County, Georgia, in Captain Rutledge’s District DD on 200 acres of second class land and 365 acres of third class land, and four slaves in Wilkes County.12
