Thomas Jones3Hardeman (Thomas2, John1), was born 31 January 1788,541 Davidson County, Tennessee,542 died 11 January 1854, near Smithville, Bastrop County, Texas.543 He married first, 26 October 1814, Maury County, Tennessee, to Mary W. Polk,544 born 6 April 1785, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, died 24 September 1835, buried Polk Cemetery, Boliver, Hardeman County, Tennessee.545 He married second, 26 October 1837, Houston, Harris County, Texas, to Mrs. Eliza DeWitt Hamilton Davis, born 17 September 1809, St. Louis County, Missouri,546 died 8 February 1863, Bastrop County, Texas. Eliza married first, 22 May 1830, Gonzales County, Texas, to Thomas Hamilton, died 1831. She married second, 21 December 1834, to James C. or E. Davis, died circa 1836.
    Thomas J. Hardeman was buried in Bastrop County, Texas. In 1937 his remains were removed to the Texas State Cemetery in Austin, Texas. He is buried in the Republic Hill Section, Section 1, Row P., Number 9. His tombstone reads: Thomas Jones Hardeman, born in Tennessee, January 31, 1788, died in Bastrop County, Texas, January 11, 1854. His wife Eliza De Witt Hardeman, born Sept. 17, 1809, died Feb. 8, 1863, Erected by the State of Texas.547
    Mary W. Polk was the daughter of Ezekiel Polk, born 7 December 1747, died 31 August 1824, Bolivar, Hardeman County, Tennessee,548
