    23. Bailey3Hardeman (Thomas2, John1), was born 26 February 1795,632 Davidson County, Tennessee, died 24 September 1836, or died 12 October 1836, aged 41, Caney Creek, Matagorda County, Texas,633 buried in the State Cemetery in Austin, Travis County, Texas. He married 20 June 1820, Williamson County, Tennessee, to Rebecca Amanda FitzAllens Wilson,634 born 24 September 1806, died 15 October 1853, Caldwell County, Texas. She was the daughter of Samuel Wilson.635
    Rebecca married second, in 1840, to Bailey Hardeman’s nephew, William Polk Hardeman. They had two children: Clara Rebecca Hardeman and Susan Emma Hardeman. [See #139, William Polk Hardeman].
    Bailey Hardeman was buried in Caney Creek, Matagorda County. In 1936 his remains were moved to the Texas State Cemetery in Austin, Travis County, Texas. He is buried in the Republic Hill Section, Section 1, Row P, Number 11. His tombstone reads: Bailey Hardeman, A Signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence, Secretary of the Treasury of the Republic, born in Tennessee 1795, died on Caney Creek, Matagorda County, October 12, 1836. Erected by the State of Texas 1936.636
    In 1812 in Williamson County, Tennessee, Thomas Hardeman sold to Thomas J. Hardeman and Bailey Hardeman, jointly, 546 acres. Bailey and Thomas J. Hardeman paid taxes in Williamson County, in 1813, jointly.
    Bailey served in the War of 1812 in Captain Cantrell’s Company, Second Regiment Mounted Gunmen. He was a first lieutenant from 28 October to 10 December 1813.
    In 1821, Bailey Hardeman, his father, Thomas Hardeman, and his brother, John Hardeman, traveled to Missouri just west of old Franklin. There they became involved in the early Santa Fe trade. Bailey Hardeman
