|pages 256-257 Deposition: United States of America, Morgan Co., Ga., 29 Oct. 1827: Before Richard Smith, J.P. of afsd. co., appeared Louis Richard Maguere, aged 72 of afsd. co. residing on his plantation, duly sworn saith that John Godard de Lisle died on his plantation in May 1826 then aged as he said of 70 years. Deponent saith that he was well acquainted with John Godard de Lisle, decd. for more than 15 years. That it is to his perfect knowledge that he was born in the city of Paris in the Kingdom of France. That he was surgeon & physician by profession. That he went from France to the Island of St. Domingo where he resided in the jurisdiction of Port au Prince. He came from thence in this country at the time the Colony of St. Domingo was evacuated by the French Army in 1803. That he was married to a Miss Metivier who is also dead some years since & that he had children by her whom he believes are now in the Island of Cuba. Also, appeared before me Izair Ball, 50 years of age, & Thomas Lacy, 30 years old, planters residing in afsd. co., sworn & say that they are neighbors of Louis Richard Maguere & that it is in their perfect knowledge that the above John God[a]rd de Lisle, a surgeon & physician, died at the house of Louis Richard Maguere in afsd. co. /s/ L.
